Fit for Breeding
The UKDA is a member of the IDC, who are active in the welfare, promotion
and furtherance of the Dobermann across the world.
The aim of the UKDA is to have a form of 'fit for breeding' test which will
include identification, health,
conformation and character.
We do not have any form of fit for breeding test in the UK and this is resulting
in too many Dobermann being bred, with large numbers being put in rescue and
being destroyed every year. With identification, conformation, health and
character and the breed itself being at risk through irresponsible breeders
and owners.
The UKDAs aim is to work together with other organisations, breeders, rescues
and the general public to ultimately reduce the amount of Dobermann in rescue
by making breeders more responsible, by having a ‘fit for breeding'
test. We believe that this test should be devised by the breed enthusiasts
in the UK. Having such measures in place would also make it un-viable for
puppy farmers to make money.
There are approximately 2,000 Dobermann puppy registrations a year.
We are a breed at risk! Through legislation such as the dangerous dogs act,
we have seen how authorities can effectively ban a breed, and the Dobermann,
as we have all seen, can in the wrong hands find itself in trouble.
Local Councils now have the power to enforce laws how they see fit, and this
could lead to the Dobermann being controlled by the Government and local Councils.
As Dobermann enthusiasts and the people that truly care about the breed, we
should take control of our beloved breed.
The Dobermann was bred to protect us, now we must
protect the Dobermann.
